In trollish, authority has three meanings (at least, see what links to this page):

1. A body that can authorise a rewards or penalty, e.g. a body with infrastructure owners trust can cause administrative bans.

2. An author to which others defer, who is quoted or cited via a source - see evidence/source/authority.

3. Any entity accepting liability, e.g. a corporation accepting civil liability
