Koko the gorilla's famous lie, "cat did it", was uttered (in American Sign Language) when her keepers found a smashed iron sink. The cat was, at the time, a tiny kitten. Koko's lie is therefore often interpreted as a joke not a serious attempt to lie. Koko was certainly trolling in any case. Blaming cats has been common enough in history: the goddess Freya was said to associate with cats and when she was portrayed as a witch by Christians her cats were likewise demonized. Blaming trolls is similar.
