HowBackups at the moment are being done using rdiff-backup. This maintains a live directory mirror with configurable reverse deltas. This may change as we explore other options. WhatAt the moment there are two backup regimes in place. /etc is backed up every 15 minutes and /home is backed up daily in the early hours of the morning. This should protect most user information, but note that we are not currently backing up anything in the /var tree, where some user sensitive information (database? wikipedia? mailman?) lives. This should be addressed. Eventually space will become a concern and we will have to throw away backups older than a certain date. This should also be addressed. WhereAt the moment, all backups are being made to adelaide.zooid.org which is a host in a physically separated environment. This may change as other hosts become available.
