DemocraKey

"There is too much freedom of speech on the internet" - Robert Mugabe, dictator of Zimbabwe, who received huge applause from the assembled thugs and potentates at a UN conference on the internet, held in Tunisia.

A DemocraKey puts TOR anonymizing software on a hidden volume on a USB key "for those people who want to be able to surf the web, without big brother tracking them." [1] In living ontology terms it is an example of a role key, where the faction is all persons and the blocks are the inhibitions against political expression on the Internet.

This is essential for political speech, also called trolling injustice: a formal incitement to overthrow the government or remove officials by indictment, organized popular revolt, or vote. It incites violent and coercive means to fix widespread problems and so is often poorly defended. Contrary to popular stupidity, the willingness and acceptance of incitement of violent revolt and coercive and intimidative methods are fundamental to politics and little change in history is achieved without it. Today, political speech is differentiated from hate speech by characteristics that may be non-obvious, and vary from country to country, as do the protections accorded it. See political libel.

Advantages over conventional anonymous proxy networks like anonet .org include:

falsely identify persons as dissidents, which can lead to human rights violations even if there is no clear or verifiable information on what was actually being done via these networks

  • TOR doesn't just protect posts but "wraps every web request in encryption and then routes it through other servers so none can tell what the other person is looking for" so gets are protected as well.

A disadvantage: A DemocraKey is a physical object so it can be discovered, though the hidden volume approach and a lack of markings on the USB memory is good protection against this. It should usually be worn on the body for further protection.

[edit] extending it

A plain DemocraKey serves the role simply of enabling human rights though it can be abused.

Adding biometric information or challenge-response data makes it possible to prevent unauthorized access to identity-specific software like memeio. That is, a memeio key can be a DemocraKey, and normally should be, to avoid intervening networks interfering or monitoring corporate intranet access.

For more advanced approaches suitable for reflexive intranets or non-hate political speech or political party use see ECG key.
