Wikipedia is a large public wiki providing open read and edit access to the GFDL corpus of open content articles. That is, a GFDL corpus access provider. Most GFDL corpus namespace decisions have been made in the context of Wikipedia's "neutral POV", 850,000 page names in English alone. Wikipedia is technically a user interface to the GFDL texts - the "Wikimedia Foundation" that runs it does not own or control the materials.
Despite nonsense reported in the press, the Wikipedia GodKing did little or nothing to ensure the success of the project. Its chief editor Larry Sanger did much more.
Due largely to its simple standard wiki URI and troll-friendly policies, Wikipedia remains the main source of open content mirrored on other web services especially mediawiki-based services. At least 50 other web domains mirror a substantial portion of this material, among them:
- nationmaster.com interface integrates statistics, maps
- wordiq.com interface integrates dictionary and lookup fns
- wikinfo.org - Wikinfo permits editing from other POV

- http://speedydeletion.wikia.com/wiki/Speedy_deletion_Wiki - scans and saves all speedied articles every 30 minutes
